Tatts Tiara

The Tattersall’s Club Tiara is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares aged three years old and older. Ciaron Maher’s Bella Nipotina is a solid AU$2.70 favorite for the Tiara despite her wide barrier draw (17). The champion mare has shown impressive closing speed in Brisbane, including a gutsy second in the Kingsford Smith Cup and Doomben 10,000. Maher believes her wide barrier won’t hinder her. Wide barriers haven’t stopped winners before, such as Srikandi in 2015.

Since the race was upgraded to Group 1 status in 2007, only two horses have won multiple times – Kerrin McEvoy on both Srikandi and Tycoon Tara and Jason Collett on Invincibella and Startantes in 2023. However, six of the 17 winners have won their lead-up race with four of those being second and two finishing fourth.
